Football GOAT Tom Brady Seeks to Follow in the Footsteps of Basketball GOAT Michael Jordan: Brady Is Moving Forward In Bid to Acquire Ownership Interest in the Las Vegas Raiders

Tom Brady‘s bid to acquire a minority ownership interest in the Las Vegas Raiders is “making progress” according to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Goodell made the remarks at the Annual NFL Team Owners Meeting in Orlando, Florida.

Tom Brady’s Bid to Acquire a Stake in the Raiders

Following in the footsteps of basketball GOAT Michael Jordan, football GOAT Tom Brady is seeking to acquire an ownership interest in a professional sports franchise.

Jordan owned the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets for 13 years, before selling the team for approximately $3 billion in August 2023.

Brady is seeking to become a part-owner of the Raiders. Toward that end, in May 2023, he agreed to terms with Raiders owner Mark Davis to buy a minority share in the team.

Raiders owner Mark Davis said:

“We’re excited for Tom to join the Raiders. And it’s exciting because he will be just the third player in the history of the National Football League to become an owner.”

The other two are the late and legendary Chicago Bears player, coach and owner, George Halas, and Jerry Richardson, who played for the Baltimore Colts and owned the Carolina Panthers.

Brady’s Path Forward

As reported by the Sporting News:

“NFL owners would need to vote on welcoming Brady into their ranks, even as a minority shareholder in a team. He would need a supermajority of 24 votes to be approved.

“The NFL is not planning to vote on Brady’s candidacy at the [ongoing] annual meetings. They are next scheduled to convene in May, so that could be a target date for approving Brady as a part of Las Vegas’ ownership group.”
