San Diego Padres Star Pitcher Has Great Outing On May 12
Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

A dominant outing by San Diego Padres Starting Pitcher Yu Darvish allowed the team to take two of three games from their National League West rival the Los Angeles Dodgers. Last weekend was the first time San Diego won a home series against the Dodgers since they swept Los Angeles on June 21-23, 2021.

The Padres won 4-0 on Sunday thanks to a masterful performance by Darvish. The veteran tossed seven scoreless innings and surrendered only two hits to the vaunted Dodgers lineup. He also tied a season-high with seven punchouts.

Darvish has gotten off to a strong start in 2024 with a record of 3-1 and an ERA of 2.43. He is pitching just as well as at any other point in his career, not surrendering an earned run in his last three starts. This hot streak follows Darvish being placed on the 15-Day Injured List with neck tightness in mid-April.

Will Darvish be able to continue his strong 2024 season?

Yu Darvish Career Summary

Darvish made his Major League Baseball debut as a member of the Texas Rangers in 2012. He spent parts of six seasons with the Rangers before being dealt to the Dodgers before the 2017 MLB Trade Deadline. His stint in “The Golden State” was short-lived as he signed with the Chicago Cubs before the 2018 regular season. He spent three years in Chicago (2018-20) and the last four seasons as a member of the San Diego Padres.

Darvish is a five-time MLB All-Star(2012-14, 2017, 2021). He has also finished top 1o in CY Young voting four times in his career. His highest finishes came in 2013 and 2020 when he finished runner-up. He lost out to Max Scherzer in 2013 and Trevor Bauer in 2020.

Darvish has a career record of 106-86 with an ERA of 3.56.

San Diego Padres Season Summary

It has been a fairly disappointing 2024 season for the San Diego Padres. The team(22-21) is slightly above .500 and entered this season with lofty expectations. San Diego has scored the fifth-most runs in the league and is fourth in batting average. The pitching staff of the San Diego Padres also has some things going for it as they are fourth in strikeouts and 10th in opposing batting average.

Darvish is not the only San Diego Padres starting pitcher taking the league by storm this season. Dylan Cease is 5-2 this season with a 2.19 ERA (seventh-best in the league) while also being top 10 in both strikeouts and WHIP.

When Will Darvish Take The Mound Next?

The next scheduled start for Darvish is Saturday, May 18, on the road against the Atlanta Braves and their high-powered offensive attack. The eyes of the baseball world will descend on Truist Park as Darvis looks to continue his great string of starts.
