The feud between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf Series has officially reached Twilight Zone-level weird as former PGA golfer Anthony Kim's name was mentioned in court documents between the rival leagues — and inquiring minds would really like to know why.
LIV Golf sent a list of 71 players to the PGA Tour, requesting documentation of any communications between Tour and those players re: LIV.

To catch everyone up to speed: The PGA Tour and LIV Golf are going back and forth suing each other right now. LIV Golf asked for a list of anyone — officials, players, sponsors, broadcasters — who discussed the breakaway league with the PGA in the last three years as part of their antitrust suit. The 71-person list provided by the PGA includes names of some players who haven't competed in years, but the one that really sticks out is, well, Anthony Kim.
Kim, now in his late 30s, hasn't played golf professionally since May 2012 after riding off into the sunset with an alleged eight-figure insurance policy. In an extremely rare media appearance in 2015, Kim referred to his time playing professional golf as "a fond memory." He is now a mysterious and hard-to-find figure who occasionally pops up in uncaptioned social media posts that fuel conspiracy theories across the greater golf fanbase.
So, how the heck does the Bigfoot of the golf world end up on a list in modern-day golf's very public feud?
As Golf Digest summarizes, "Kim’s inclusion on the list does not mean the Tour has necessarily discussed LIV with Kim or that he’s received an offer" to play for LIV. (Although, there were definitely some rumors earlier this year that LIV Golf had reached out to him.) GD does say, though, that the list "seems to indicate that these are the most important or most relevant golfers to the subject at hand."
What makes Kim one of the "most important or most relevant"? It could mean LIV Golf did in fact reach out to him about playing in their Saudi Arabia-funded league. Or, it could also mean someone else still on the Tour is in contact with him and discussed LIV Golf with him. The fact of the matter, though, is that until more details emerge, we really can't say how Kim is involved in the whole thing if he really hasn't been involved with the professional golf world in a decade.
There is no denying that Kim being among the golfers involved in this lawsuit is fascinating. We will have to stay tuned to see what the real connection between the former pro and LIV Golf really is.
